Premium Transit Moving San Antonio Into the Future

VIA Rapid is San Antonio’s Advanced Rapid Transit (ART) system. ART is high-quality, modern public transit that’s faster and more accessible. Infrastructure improvements will transform VIA Rapid corridors, making them safer and easier to travel for everyone while supporting access to opportunity and economic development.

Moving People Faster and Farther

Riding VIA Rapid will resemble the experience of light rail. Accessible platform boarding, multi-door loading, and ticketing kiosks at each station will get riders moving faster. Articulated buses increase rider comfort and accommodate riders with mobility devices and bikes.

VIA Rapid lines will connect riders faster, with 10-minute frequency on weekdays and 15-minute frequency on weekends. Dedicated bus lanes and priority traffic signals will keep VIA Rapid buses moving efficiently and traffic flowing smoothly.

Improving Infrastructure, Enhancing Mobility and Safety

Several infrastructure improvements along VIA Rapid corridors will enhance travel and safety for pedestrians, motorists, and bicyclists.

  • Road resurfacing will improve drainage, moving water away from bus stops and crosswalks.
  • Improved sidewalks and bike lanes will enhance safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
  • Bus-friendly traffic signals, managed turns, and other upgrades will make intersections safer for everyone on VIA Rapid corridors.

All improvements will be made while considering and maintaining neighborhood history and access.

The Green Line will run north-south along San Pedro Avenue from the San Antonio International Airport to the historic missions area, connecting in the future with the Silver Line Downtown for convenient transfer.

Moving East-to-West

The Silver Line will run east-west from a station near the Frost Bank Center, through Downtown where it will connect to the Green Line, to Our Lady of the Lake University.

Supporting Equitable Transit Access

Efficient, affordable, and accessible transportation benefits the whole city by putting more opportunities in reach for more people.

VIA Rapid lines will support access to opportunity by connecting residential areas, key employment centers, education, medical care, and other essential services.

VIA Rapid infrastructure improvements also will enhance accessibility for riders with disabilities and limited mobility, connecting them to opportunities and supporting their independence.

Supporting Economic Development

Modern public transit systems are a vital part of infrastructure that attracts investment from companies looking to invest in San Antonio, creating jobs and opportunities for our city.

VIA Rapid will help support economic development by providing more attractive, innovative transit options along some of the city’s key corridors.

VIA Rapid lines also are perfectly located to connect riders throughout the city to events, cultural hubs, and historical sites, which support businesses along the corridors.
