Enabling Sustainable, Equitable Growth
San Antonio is among the fastest-growing major cities in the nation. It is projected to increase its population from nearly 2.5 million today to as many as 4 million by 2050 and create around 800,000 new jobs.
As this growth continues, expanding public transit options can play a key role in reducing traffic congestion, improving safety and air quality, and decreasing environmental impacts of increased car use.
By prioritizing investment in areas that need it the most, San Antonio’s growth will be inclusive and equitable.
Connecting People to Opportunity
Without continued investment in public transit, the forecast level of growth threatens to leave some individuals and communities behind, struggling to access career and educational opportunities.
The Keep SA Moving Plan uplifts individuals and communities by:
- Providing more access to jobs, training, and employment centers.
- Connecting students to educational opportunities.
- Expanding access for riders with disabilities and limited mobility.
- Improving sidewalks and crosswalks on major corridors.
Further investment in our public transit system can help ensure equitable growth and attract economic development by making San Antonio a better connected, competitive metro area.
SA Voters Support Transit Investment
In 2020, over two-thirds of San Antonio voters approved the initiative to increase investment in our public transit system and fund projects that enhance mobility throughout the city.
Historically, VIA has received just half of a cent, or half of the potential amount of sales tax revenue allowed, to fund its operations and improve services. In 2026, VIA began collecting seven-eighths of a cent to help fund improvements that enhance connectivity across the city.
Innovations that Move People Faster and Farther
Keep SA Moving projects are focused on improving existing service, introducing innovative new transit options, and improving frequency, efficiency, and connectivity for riders across the city.
